The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Zanjan is the first department established with this name in Iran. This department started its activities by admitting 5 students in the Master's program in October of the 2008 and currently admits 18-24 students annually. Environmental Sciences is an interdisciplinary field that closely collaborates with many scientific departments at the university, including Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Physics, Soil Science, and Mining.

It's worth mentioning that since 2021, this department has also launched a Bachelor's program in Environmental Sciences and Engineering by admitting 20 students, and currently admits students in both Bachelor's and Master's programs.

All bachelor's graduates in the country can participate in the national entrance exam for a Master's degree in this field. For the undergraduate level in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, all candidates taking part in the national entrance exam can be admitted either through the entrance exam or based on their academic merits and performance..

The goal of the Environmental Science training program is to educate individuals capable of conducting both applied and fundamental research necessary to address the environmental challenges and issues of the country. These individuals possess necessary skills for designing and supervising the successful implementation of specialized projects in various fields of environmental sciences.
